What is SNAP?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can help you get the food you need for sound nutrition and well-balanced meals. The program issues electronic benefits (an EBT card that you use like a debit card) that can help stretch your food budget. Benefits can be spent like cash in most food stores or some farmers markets, and can be used to buy food.  They cannot be used to buy non-food items such as paper household products, tobacco products or ready-to-eat deli food.

How Do I Get Started?

The SNAP Screening Tool asks a few questions to help you determine if you may be eligible for SNAP.

SNAP Facts:

  • The amount of benefits you get is based on income, expenses and number of people in your houehold.
  • SNAP benefits continue as long as you need them if you meet program rules.
